Interior Design Department field trips

Cultural Studies

A trip to National Art Gallery and the Islamic Museum to observe and understand various forms of cultures thru’ art & religion.


Construction Studies

A design & build company. Students were met with some senior designers to understand the industry environment of a design & build company involving many technical construction aspects in design.

A construction site of a bungalow under construction. The lecturer walk thru the site to give an “on-site lesson” on the various construction details and methodology and at the same time met with the contractors to get a firsthand experience at a design site.


Interior Materials & Finishes

A field trip down Jalan Ipoh to visit two of our industry partners; Apex Boutique Tile and Capricorn provided our students an opportunity to visit both these material showroom to view the wide array of materials for interior designers plus another valuable opportunity to meet their sales personnel to further understand the supply & demands of clients.


Design Studio 2 (Commercial Design)

A study lunch session at restaurant; laBoca (serving latin American comfort food) including a tea break at café Azzurro (Italian pastries with hot beverage) was organized to “expose” the students to a dining experience to understand the layout, restaurant design, operation needs plus a walk thru’ the back-of-house facilities; the kitchen. Both the chef and the restaurant manager gave our students a walk thru and explained how a restaurant operates and how a good or bad design can affect both the staff servicing and the customer’s satisfaction.


Design Studio 3

This term, it’s down south to Malacca where the students spent two nights staying in a boutique hotel as their final graduation project is a Boutique Hotel design, this study trip aim to provide our ID students the opportunity to absorb the concept of boutique hotel design by staying at one and visiting various ones around Malacca; YTL Majestic Hotel, the Swan Green Hotel and Cyclamen Cottage to name a few.


BDes Public Space & Commercial Design

What better country than Bangkok, Thailand to expose our Degree students the creative energy of the Thais. A 3N/4D trip was organized and our students visited the many commercial malls, F&B scenes, arts & culture center including public spaces such as their BTS stations, parks, recreation foyers, open markets and such. The commercialism and excitement were overwhelming with our students returning back to KL overflowing with inspirations and design ideas for their final projects.
