Designer Spotlight: Interview with Lisa F by Evelyn Goh & Sidra Shah
On a sunny evening, Lisa walks towards us wearing a bold optical illusion top with funky bright orange skirt, the designer and fashion stylist completes the look with cute pineapple earrings and bright pink sling bag. We sat with Lisa F, a graduate degree holder from Raffles Design College - at a hip cafĂ© ‘The Social’, Publika. Get closer insights about her upcoming collection LISA F Spring/Summer 2016 Ready To Wear collection showcase at the Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week RTW 2015!
HAVE YOU ALWAYS WANTED TO BE A FASHION DESIGNER?
I used to make mini clothes for my Barbie dolls as a young girl. I sketched clothes during boring classes in my teenage years. That said, the fashion scene was not an obvious choice. I grew up with my parents' clinic in a suburb where nobody is a fashion designer nor a fashion stylist. I tried to do veterinary medicine, how I dreaded sitting in lecture halls for hours! Finally, I convinced my parents in year 2007 that I would like to pursue fashion design and here I am working in the industry.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE YOU TO CREATE A DESIGN?
It could take seconds, it could take minutes. Depends on my creativity level and environment at the time. Sometimes, it depends on the weather and state of mind.
FAVORITE DESIGN FROM YOUR SPRING/SUMMER 2016 RTW WOMENSWEAR COLLECTION WOULD BE...
I love every single piece of my designs, from the fashion sketches to actual garments. Every piece is worth my time, effort and money. So far, I have designed 20 looks and I'm showcasing only 12 this time.
